Nuts for nuts
Are you into nuts, but prefer to keep your fat intake low? Then how about chestnuts? They are at least as nutty as other tree nuts but have quite a distinctive nutritional profile. Unlike most nuts, chestnuts are actually low in fat, and slightly sweet due to their sugar content, which provides energy for the body. What's more, it's incredibly easy to take along a packet of Prozis Steamed Chestnuts in your backpack, and simply snack away while you go about your business! Be prepared for a slight pang of sadness when you realise you've just eaten the last one, though...
All Steamed and Ready to Eat
Eat your chestnuts straight out of the bag, or warm them up a little in the microwave, pan or a bain-marie for even more flavour and texture. Prozis Steamed Chestnuts are also bound to give a nutrition and taste boost to your home-made dishes!
Your Travel Companion
Prozis Steamed Chestnuts are so convenient, they only take up the tiniest bit of space so you can take them anywhere with you: to work or school, on a hike or bicycle ride, on the train or bus… anywhere, really!
Part of European cuisine for a very long time, sweet chestnuts are delicious as well as nutritious. Originally from the Mediterranean region, they're grown throughout a major part of Europe as well as other parts of the world. Bear in mind that we're talking about sweet chestnuts, not horse chestnuts! Despite their outer resemblance, the species are unrelated and the latter is actually poisonous to humans.
The origin of our chestnuts
The chestnuts offered by Prozis are harvested in Trás-os-Montes, Portugal, a region where chestnuts have been grown and eaten for centuries. Since they don't need to travel half the world before any further handling (many chestnuts on the western market are from China and other far-away countries), they don't need to be frozen or treated with preservatives. They're peeled, steamed and packed while still at their freshest, for maximum nutritional value, flavour, texture, and plain nuttiness.
Chestnuts are incredibly versatile: they can be eaten straight out of the packet for some responsible, natural snacking, but they also go well with lots of sweet and savoury foods. They're popular for stuffing poultry, but are also an excellent addition to soups, stews, roasts, and also cakes, puddings and various desserts. When ground, they can even serve as a substitute for flour in bread-making. Whatever way you choose to use them, you won't be disappointed!
