Taurine is the most abundant free amino acid in the body, along with glutamine, and it can be found in almost all tissues but is mainly present in heart, muscle, blood, retina, brain and the nervous system. This amino acid can be synthesized by the organism in the brain and the liver, or found in protein -rich foods such as meat, fish and seafood and it is also present, though in smaller quantities, in beetroots and beans.
