Ornithine is an amino acid with a fundamental role in the urea cycle, that also plays a part in the synthesis of other amino acids, in particular arginine and citrulline. It is a non-essential amino acid that can be synthesized by the body, but it can also be obtained from consuming foods that are rich in protein, like meat, dairy products, fish and eggs.
