Keep an eye on it
Rainbow of goodness.
The two major carotenoids in the human macula and retina are lutein and zeaxanthin, one of the reasons why people think of lutein as “the eye vitamin”! Considered as a macular pigment, its importance in visual function remains under clinical research.
But what exactly is a carotenoid? Carotenoids are organic pigments that give certain vegetables and fruits their characteristic color (red, orange, or yellow). Although similar, each carotenoid has specific properties. In particular, lutein is found in abundance in fruit (orange and mandarin) and vegetables, particularly in dark green leafy vegetables.
Brain on Lutein!
