D-Aspartic acid (D-Asp) is an endogenous amino acid occurring in several tissues and cells of both invertebrates and vertebrates. D-Asp was first detected in the brain and optic lobes of the cephalopod mollusk Octopus vulgaris, and later in the nervous and endocrine systems of various animal phyla such as crustaceans, amphibians, reptiles, fish, chickens, rats, and humans. There are several scientific studies and many reviews carried out on this subject, so we can say that D-Asp is still a subject of investigation with a lot to be discovered and revealed.
