Time Released Protein

The origin and structure of proteins determine how long their digestion takes, as well as their rate of absorption into the bloodstream. Time released proteins are typically supplements that contain proteins from different sources, which are digested more slowly and absorbed more gradually. The slower uptake of the amino acids is mostly beneficial in situations where the body has to stay without the required nutrients for some time, such as during sleep time.

The speed at which proteins are digested depends on the particular protein structure. They are often categorized as rapid absorption (whey concentrate, isolate and hydrolysate), medium absorption (wheat, soy and egg) or slow absorption (casein).
