10 Healthy Habits that Fit People Live By
1 – They are organised
To achieve their goals, fit people are always well organised in their daily habits, such as meals and workouts. They have an eating plan established, usually knowing in advance what and when they are going to eat; and a workout schedule, ensuring that they will not miss a single session.
2 – They stick to their promises
If they’ve planned to work out later that day, they will, even if they only have 20 minutes to do it. If they’ve promised to stop taking sugar in their coffee, they will. Fitness is about everyday choices and constant improvement, and to achieve that, discipline is key.
3 – They make healthy eating a part of their lifestyle
People don’t become fit overnight, they become fit over time with real lifestyle changes. Therefore, eating healthily must be a lasting behavioural change, and not some new fad diet that has an expiration date. Only with that mindset can someone be fit in the long run.
4 – They don’t restrict food
Fit people always make their plates colourful, diverse and full of flavour. They don’t banish food types, but make intelligent choices, such as going for whole-grain instead of refined bread , and for mashed avocado instead of mayo for their sandwich sauce. Sometimes they have a cheat meal, and that’s ok, because 90% of the time they keep their diet healthy and on track.
5 – They never skip meals
Fit people take their nutritional plan seriously, so skipping on meals is not an option for them. In order to have energy for their workouts, to build muscle and to keep their weight under control, they make sure to always have a good breakfast in the morning and several balanced meals throughout the day.
6 – They stay hydrated
It is very important for our body to always stay hydrated in order to function properly, and for that, fit and healthy people make sure to drink plenty of water during the day (at least 1.5 litres).
Water is their main drink, while other drinks such as soda and wine are just occasional treats.
7 – They lift weights and vary their workouts
To build muscle, tone the body and be in shape, fit people include weight lifting workouts in their training programmes. Cardio only is not enough! Besides, lifting weights results in a faster metabolism, which makes the body burn more calories during the day. They also vary their workouts to “surprise” the muscles, avoiding muscle adaptation.
8 – They get enough sleep
To seriously commit to a healthier lifestyle, sleep has got to be one of the top priorities of fit people. Proper sleep is key for healthy body functions and for people to actually see the results of their daily efforts. Diets and workouts won’t take you far without proper rest. For that, they sleep between 7 and 9 hours a day.
9 – They listen to their body but don’t obsess about the way it looks
Fit and healthy people are always in tune with their bodies, listening to their signals, understanding what they need and providing it. On the other hand, they don’t constantly weigh themselves or look at themselves in the mirror. There is no need for them to worry about the way their body looks, because their healthy lifestyle already takes care of it.
10 – They have a positive mindset
They don’t beat themselves up with negative thoughts and they don’t compare themselves to others too much. Instead, fit people focus on their own journey and progress, always with a positive mindset, telling themselves things like “I am strong”, “I am healthy”, “I can do this” and “I am happy”.
