Which is my body type: ectomorph, mesomorph or endomorph?
Apart from diet and training, there is another factor in the bodybuilding equation: genetics. There are 3 body types and all of us fall into one of them, although many of us are a mix of 2 types. They are: ectomorph, mesomorph, and endomorph.
As it would be expected, different body types react differently to the same training and diet plan. This is why the workout and diet of the person A may not produce the same effects on person B. After knowing your body type, its pros and cons, you can draw up a plan that fits your muscle development.
Here are the 3 different classifications.
Ectomorphs are characterised by their lean structure. They are known for having difficulties gaining great amounts of lean muscle mass. On the other hand, since they have a much more accelerated metabolism, they are not prone to gaining fat mass. They can burn fat very easily and usually are better with aerobic activities.
When it comes to supplements, fat burners are unnecessary, with a few exceptions. In turn, mass gainers are always welcome. The intake of multivitamins is also recommended. A good example of an ectomorph bodybuilder is the legendary Frank Zane.
These individuals have been blessed with wide shoulders and a narrow waist. They can gain lean mass rather easily and their bodies are in a V-shape. They have metabolisms slower than those of ectomorphs, therefore they may need more cardio training and a proper diet to shed the extra pounds.
Most professional bodybuilders, such as Nasser El Sonbaty and Gunter Schlierkamp, fall into this category. If you are an mesomorph, fat burners can make the fat loss process much simpler.
Endomorphs are characterised by a greater bone density, and wide waist and hips. They are also characterised by their relatively short arms and legs. Generally, they can gain muscle mass easily. However, since their metabolism is very slow, they gain fat along with lean mass.
When it comes to shedding fat, endomorphs need every help they can get, that is, besides doing cardio, it’s recommended to resort to fat burners or other supplements that assist in fat loss, such as L-carnitine or CLA.
